Hello

Hello and welcome to our blog. We are a family of 4 and have been home educating since our eldest son would have started school in 2012. Dh and I share the H.E duties between us. We're going to try blogging partly to encourage us to reflect on what we're doing and partly to share what we're up to with anybody who may be interested. As a family we are all really enjoying home ed. so if we help in any way to support others or to help spread the word then that would be wonderful.

Music

We are musicians by profession so this is an easy one! The boys are both very keen on music so it's a big part of everyday life here.

We start each school day with a song. Usually it's from 'Sing Together'  by William Appleby and Frederick Fowler. So many of the songs refer to historical events. It's great to get some deep cultural resonance going on there with what we learn in history.

We started both boys off with recorder at home using John Pitt's classic series 'Recorder from the Beginning'.

Aly now has piano, oboe and recorder lessons. Struan has piano, recorder and violin lessons. Both boys also go to weekly singing classes at St Mary's Music School, and take part in summer schools and occasional regional playing days.
