Hello

Hello and welcome to our blog. We are a family of 4 and have been home educating since our eldest son would have started school in 2012. Dh and I share the H.E duties between us. We're going to try blogging partly to encourage us to reflect on what we're doing and partly to share what we're up to with anybody who may be interested. As a family we are all really enjoying home ed. so if we help in any way to support others or to help spread the word then that would be wonderful.

Teacher's Strike!

When I tell people we are home edding one of the most common things people say is that they couldn't do it themselves as their kids wouldn't listen to them enough to be teachable. I imagine that would be just awful. Trying to give kids the gift of education while they resist you. Grrrrr!  We have always seen education as a wonderful privilege that we in our rich, post-industrial society have the time and the wealth to enjoy as never before. Soooo. Today when faced with lack of focus and low-level resistance in school time I went on strike. Rather that than end up exhausted, irritated and irritable. Hopefully today's lesson, about the value of education, is actually more important than what we had planned to do anyway. I think it has been received. After unsuccessfully pleading for the strike to end ds6 took himself to the front doorstep for some personal recorder practice.
