Combining education and socialising has never worked well for us. One of the things I love about home ed. is that the boys can concentrate on schoolwork on their own and then when they're with their pals they can concentrate on having a great time. I tried to mix the two again yesterday and again it didn't work! We've been learning about castles and the boys enthusiastically made a big list of things to look out for when visiting Dirleton with our local home ed group. When we got there they didn't want to know and instead had a wonderful time rushing around exploring the castle, rolling out of it and then seemingly trying to climb back in. Mummy lesson relearned! Oh, and another lesson relearned. Always pack a flask. It was freezing!
Hello
Hello and welcome to our blog. We are a family of 4 and have been home educating since our eldest son would have started school in 2012. Dh and I share the H.E duties between us. We're going to try blogging partly to encourage us to reflect on what we're doing and partly to share what we're up to with anybody who may be interested. As a family we are all really enjoying home ed. so if we help in any way to support others or to help spread the word then that would be wonderful.
I really need to remember to pack a flask as it's really cold here too! I think that meeting up and just having fun is great plus its nice for parents to have a little teaching free time as well every once in a while:)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. Having lots of free time, with and without pals, is one of our main reasons for homeschooling. I remember the freedom of summer holidays and am glad we give the boys that all year round.
