Hello
Hello and welcome to our blog. We are a family of 4 and have been home educating since our eldest son would have started school in 2012. Dh and I share the H.E duties between us. We're going to try blogging partly to encourage us to reflect on what we're doing and partly to share what we're up to with anybody who may be interested. As a family we are all really enjoying home ed. so if we help in any way to support others or to help spread the word then that would be wonderful.

How to have a calm(er) house.
We have a very simple way of defusing tension in our house. We have a bell which we keep in the lounge. Whenever anyone begins to be angry, bicker, in any way less than at peace with oneself we can ring the bell as a gift to that person and to the house. We agree that at the (beautiful) sound of the bell everyone in the house will stop where they are and follow their breathing for 3 in-breaths and 3 out-breaths. The transformative power of this is incredible. Usually taking those moments to enjoy our breath, relax and recentre oneself is all that is needed to prevent a heated situation from unfolding. It is a wonderfully democratic and empowering practice. Ds4 has often donged (!) for us adults. Anyone interested might like to read more by the originator of this practice, Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn. www.plumvillage.org
