We use Artistic Pursuits as our art spine. It's been great, but recently I've been finding it a bit dry and technical so I've decided to mix it up with other things. When the boys were smaller we used Mary-Anne Kohl's 'Preschool Art'. Her central message is that kids' art should be about the process rather than the end product. She tends to outline a technique and then encourage you to explore what you can do with it for yourself. So I invested in her 'Exploring Great Artists',where she matches great works of art with a particular technique to try. We stated with splatter painting and Jackson Pollock's 'Lavendar Mist'. The boys loved it and it's inspired them to do lots more abstract art in their free time. We've had watercolours, chalk pastels and pen creations.
