Hello

Hello and welcome to our blog. We are a family of 4 and have been home educating since our eldest son would have started school in 2012. Dh and I share the H.E duties between us. We're going to try blogging partly to encourage us to reflect on what we're doing and partly to share what we're up to with anybody who may be interested. As a family we are all really enjoying home ed. so if we help in any way to support others or to help spread the word then that would be wonderful.

'Exploring Nature With Children'

We started using this new, year-long nature curriculum this week.

https://payhip.com/b/vWOq

It is based on Charlotte Mason's idea of nature study walks with the planning and prep. done for you (and done very well). Each week there is a topic to focus on during the walk, a seasonal poem to read, a picture to look at and various ideas for crafts etc. It's very flexible.

I always feel a bit ambivalent towards the idea of us studying when we go to the woods as I think the free play the boys do there is so beautiful and important. However, I also see that having a focus deepens our appreciation of what is around us. As ever it's a balance.

This first week's topic was seed dispersal. The exploding gorse and balsam were a big hit here and there was almost a snowstorm of thistle-down released!
